Helping at an expensive time of year - Wood Street Mission Winter Spirit Story

December 2016 sees the opening of the first Wood Street Mission Christmas Shop. On Friday 2nd December, preparations were being made and they were busy on what was the deadline date for referrals. Families already referred to other Wood Street Mission services within the last year can access the Christmas Shop or those newly referred by a social worker, support worker, health visitor, midwife or from refuges, other charities or schools.

Complete our important State of the Sector Survey

We have extended the deadline to complete our State of the Sector survey to 18 December 2016.

We would like to encourage your organisation to complete our important survey as we want to know how the government cuts and economic recession have affected our sector. We need to know how many groups have lost funding, how many have had to reduce services and how many have had to close or are facing closure. But also how we continue to work together providing valuable services and support to the people of Manchester.

Mustard Tree Spirit Story - The Trees of Ancoats

Mustard Tree approached the New Islington Free School earlier this year about working on an art project which would brighten up the area surrounding their new building in Ancoats. Graham, Creative Programmes Manager, initially came up with the idea of fusing nature and city life together by creating an art installation called the ‘The Trees of Ancoats’.

Fareshare Spirit Story - 4.49 Tonnes of Food

I would struggle financially and turn to crime in order to get food”. Eric was referred to one of the organisations Fareshare delivers to, Mustard Tree, after moving from homelessness into his first tenancy. He likes everything about the Food Club he is a part of and is glad it is here.

Cheetham Hill Advice Centre - Spirit Story - ‘a life saver’

Thursday 22nd September - Drop-in Advice Session
Today, Cheetham Hill Advice Centre, which is the only neighbourhood advice centre in Manchester, held a drop-in advice session. They were holding three sessions this week as part of their regular work. 37 people came seeking advice, and of those 22 were seen by someone at the centre and the rest were signposted elsewhere. Everyone who came to the session was seen, however long it took.

Tree of Life Centre – Spirit Story – Tea and Tai Chi

At noon on Thurs 22nd September, the morning Craft Group had just finished. Earlier there’d been a Tai Chi session. Soon they’ll be holding a discussion event on health and wellbeing. 

The Tree of Life Centre provides many vital services in Wythenshawe. These include health and wellbeing sessions, advice and friendship groups, a community café and opportunities for local people to train, gain qualifications and experience through volunteering.
