Did you know there are approximately 11 million people in the UK who are deaf or hard of hearing?

There are approximately 150,000 British Sign Language users. BSL is a rich and beautiful language comprising ofhand gestures, facial expressions and body movement. It was recognised as a language in its own right in 2003.

“The stigma around HIV can massively impact on those living with the virus. In the early 1980’s, there was a huge lack of understanding around what HIV was. There was no cure, no effective treatment and a lot of fear. Fast forward to 2021 and people with HIV can expect to live a normal life expectancy and are more likely to die from something other than HIV, but knowledge and understanding has not kept pace. These days, when taking effective treatment, the HIV virus becomes undetectable and can no longer be passed on to others.

Donate your blood plasma and help save a life

donate plasma imageNHS Blood and Transplant is asking for men between the ages of 17 and 66 to consider donating their blood plasma which is used in the production of life-saving medicines. Thousands of patients rely on these antibody-based medicines called immunoglobulins, which are used for short-term treatment or lifelong diseases, they help people with weak immune systems and a variety of other rare disorders.

Funding for Black-led organisations in the UK

common call fundDo it Now Now (DINN) is delighted to have received funding from Comic Relief’s Global Majority Fund to provide, through a Common Call grant fund, financial support to Black-led charities and social enterprises disproportionately impacted by Covid-19 in the UK. The £300,000 fund includes contributions from Barclays, National Emergencies Trust, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, The Clothworkers’ Foundation and Comic Relief.

FoodCycle is opening up in Wythenshawe

foodcycleFoodCycle is preparing to open its first Wythenshawe-based free meals service for local residents. FoodCycle currently operate a free meals service in Prestwich, Levenshulme and Salford, and hope to restart the Oldham FoodCycle Project soon too.

FoodCycle is a national charity established in 2009, with the aim of tackling food poverty and social isolation using donated surplus food.
