‘You’re helping me just by listening’ a peer research study into the experiences and needs of young adults accessing support for their mental health and wellbeing across GM.

Young adults often feel misunderstood by mental health services, they struggle to navigate the complex landscape of mental health support and when they do get help, they are waiting, often for extensive periods of time without any communication.

How do we know this?
Over the last year and a half, 42nd Street have trained and supported young researchers to design and carry this project. The aim has been to explore the issues that young adults (aged 16-25) face when they are trying to access support for their mental health and wellbeing, and design solutions to try and solve some of these issues.

The research team have spoken to over 150 young adults from across Greater Manchester, and well now, the findings are in…

Join this event to take an in-depth look at some of the key themes that have emerged from the work, and help us think about how we can all play a role in improving the experience of young adults accessing mental health services.

The morning will consist of an overview of the project, an exploration of the findings and recommendations, space for questions, discussions and reflections about what we can all do to better support young adults in Greater Manchester. There will also be a chance to look at some great artwork produced by young people in response to the research.

Whether you work directly with young adults, manage a service, commission services or are just interested in what young people have to say, we encourage you to make the time to come along and to engage with the findings in an open, reflective and productive space.
