Festival of Ageing 2018

29 Mar 2018 - 11:02 by michelle.foster

The Festival of Ageing 2018 will take place across Greater Manchester between the 2 and 15 July 2018 and will be a celebration of positive and diverse images of ageing. Festival of Ageing

Funded by Ambition for Ageing, the festival is being co-ordinated by a partnership of five groups, 4CT (a charity in Manchester), HMR Circle (in Rochdale), MMU Age Friendly Team, Persona (in Bury) and Wigan Athletic Community Trust. The celebratory event will portray a more positive view of ageing, as well as encouraging policy-makers to take the action needed to improve the lives of Greater Manchester’s 907,000 older people – a figure set to rise to 1.1million in the next twenty years.

The Festival will offer a range of activities, fun, music, dancing, hobbies, physical activities, information and lots of opportunities for individuals and communities to join in or create their own festival fringe event. Events and activities planned so far over the festival fortnight are as follows:
• Launch event in Manchester city centre on Monday 2 July 2018
• Borough events in Salford, Wigan, Bury, Bolton, Tameside, Rochdale and Oldham
• Finale event in Manchester city centre on Sunday 15 July
• Lots of small neighbourhood events and activities around different locations around Greater Manchester

Groups and individual older people (anyone aged 50+) are all warmly encouraged to get involved. See below for how to apply as a host, an attendee or vounteer, or a performer

Register to host an event
If you are planning to run an activity for older people in Greater Manchester between 2 and 15 July, register the event – your details will be included in the festival programme and the first 500 event organisers to register will receive a special information pack full of hints and tips about running your event. Apply online here or download and print out a paper form

Apply for financial help to host an event
Looking for a bit of financial assistance with organising an activity in the festival fortnight? You can apply to a One Small Thing scheme - just apply to get a bill paid on your behalf to help you fund your event. This might be for example, room hire, catering or for an instructor, or any other ideas you might have. Apply online here or download and print out a paper form

Register as an individual to attend all events
If you are over 50 and would like to attend the Festival of Ageing celebrations, you can register to receive a festival programme and an ‘easy access’ wristband. The wristband will give you priority access to the launch event and borough events. Apply online here or download and print out a paper form. You can also use this form if you would like to volunteer to be a Festival Champion, assisting with events and helping visitors find their way around the celebrations.

Perform
The Festival of Ageing is looking for groups/performers for the events and for a ‘talent’ show as part of the festival. If you would like to register as a performer with the festival, apply online here or download and print out a paper form
