Let Us Pay For Your Training

7 Feb 2013 - 13:32 by cheryl.mcalister

GMYN is offering funding through the East Manchester Ending Youth Violence bursary programme for staff or volunteers from voluntary, community and faith organisations to attend training, conferences and events which will increase their ability to support young people engaged in/at risk of being engaged in violent activity.

The training or events may directly address issues of youth violence and working with young people involved in gangs or violence, but could also a range of other issues identified as key risk factors for young people, such as:

  • Early childhood neglect and abuse.
  • Mental ill health.
  • Parental violence and drug addiction.
  • School exclusion and early conduct disorders.
  • Supporting young people who are victims of crime.
  • Youth involvement in early and repeat offending.
  • Domestic violence/abusive teen relationships.
  • Broader community factors like local attitudes to the illegal economy or high crime rates.
  • Dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Addressing issues in working with young men or young women.

Who Can Apply For Bursaries?

Community, Voluntary and Faith organisations who undertake work with young people in the East Manchester SRF area or work with young people from the East Manchester SRF area.

How much can I apply for?

We have not set a limit but you will need to justify the expense, particularly for any larger grants (£250 and above). If you intend to apply for funding for more than one staff member/volunteer, you will need to explain why you need to send more than one person.

What can I spend the bursary on?

This bursary can cover the cost of training/conference/event fees for staff or volunteers. Other costs relating such as transport and accommodation can also be supported where justified.

When to Apply?

Now! Resources are limited so apply as soon as possible! This will be a rolling programme and will stop once there are no further grants available.

How do I apply?

We want this process to be simple. Therefore we are only asking you to email [email protected] with the following information.

1. Name of your organisation/group

2. Name of person(s) attending the training/conferences/event.

3. Date, venue, price of the training. Ideally we would like a web address of the direct booking form. If you require additional funding for transport, accommodation etc, please provide information on price, location etc

4. Brief details as to why you have chosen this training and how it will contribute to addressing the issues identified in East Manchester.

5. Declaration to say you have confirmed permission and availability to attend the training/conference/event.

What if I don’t know what training is available?

We have some information about relevant training which may give you some ideas. However If you don’t find any relevant training provision, please contact us with any training needs you have identified and we will endeavour to try and find an alternative solution. For example this could include using the bursary to fund a specialised trainer to come to your organisation. Talk to us!

What Happens Once I Have Applied?

Your application will be checked to make sure you’ve answered all the questions stated above. We may contact you to clarify any issues and get more information and we will inform you of the decision ASAP so that you can use the bursary straight away.
If successful you can make a booking and we will discuss payment terms.

Where Has the Money Come From?

Manchester City Council has supported Greater Manchester Youth Network to administer these bursaries in East Manchester as part of the Home Office’s initiatives to tackle Violent Crime, and Gun & Gang related crime. GMYN is delivering this project in East Manchester in partnership with 4CT Limited.
