Make sure to register your Charity for Gift Aid Online by 30 Sept

27 Sep 2013 - 12:05 by michelle.foster

Charities need to register for Charities Online, the Government’s new digital system to claim Gift Aid by 30 September 2013.

From 1 October 2013, charities will no longer be able to claim Gift Aid using the paper R68i forms.

The online service, introduced by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) last April, aims to respond to the changing landscape of fundraising due to technology and the way many people give today. The new system is expected to make claiming gift aid repayments faster for charities and sports clubs. Online claims should get paid within three working days, as opposed to 26 days using the old paper form.

Your charity or Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) can use Charities Online to claim Gift Aid tax repayments, tax back on other income, and a top-up payment under the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS). The new scheme enables charities to claim top-up payments of 25p for every £1 collected on cash donations of £20 or less.
