20 Dec 2018 - 15:58 by michelle.foster

What is Community events funding?
Community Events Funding is available to registered community groups as development funding to help community based not-for-profit celebrations and events grow and move towards becoming self-sustaining. Manchester City Council

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that the funding can generate both social and economic returns. In particular Community events funding should generate economic benefits, enhance Manchester's global reputation and make the city a better place to live in.

In order to achieve the required impacts and outcomes Manchester City Council envisage that successful applicants will be proposing events of similar impact to those events funded in 2018/19. Funding for community events will also only generally be available to groups who can also demonstrate a track record in event delivery and community engagement.

As an example the following community events received funding in 2018/19:
• Chinese New Year celebrations
• The Irish Festival parade
• The Caribbean Carnival of Manchester
• Manchester Mega Mela
• Gobefest
• Dashehra Diwali Mela
• St Georges Day

Funding for smaller events with a more localised/neighbourhood focus may be available through the Neighbourhood Investment fund.

As a general guide funding is available for up to 20% of the total event cost. The maximum grant available is £20,000 per annum.

Funding is available for activity taking place between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020.
