Manchester City Council apprenticeship opportunities

13 Jul 2012 - 15:39 by cheryl.mcalister

WHAT IS THE MCC APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME?

• Over the next year, MCC are offering a range of Apprenticeship posts to support out of work and disadvantaged Manchester residents and young people into employment

WHAT WILL APPRENTICES BE OFFERED?

• Pay scale: You will be recruited to a permanent role as an ‘Apprentice’ into a Grade 1 position at scale point 6 - £12,489. An incremental pay scale framework would then allow the individual to progress through to the normal scale for the role to which they have been aligned.

• Probationary period: Apprentices will be required to complete a 6 month probationary period to ensure that they have sufficient time to meet required targets and that the manager is able to provide a longer period of time to monitor the individual. Once the probationary period is successfully complete, permanent employment will be confirmed.

• Qualification: Apprentices will be required to complete a Level 2/3 qualification relevant to their role and any associated training, development and learning opportunities. The expectation is that individuals will begin to study an Apprenticeship qualification within the first 6 months of commencing employment.

• Induction: A support package will be offered incorporating joint induction, peer support and networking opportunities.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Apprentice roles will be offered to individuals who are Manchester residents (pay council tax to MCC)

And who are:

• Eligible for Apprenticeship qualification (either Level 2 or Level 3) – you must not be qualified to HND or Degree Level

And one of the following:
a. 16-19 year olds
b. Looked After Child/Leaving Care
c. Unemployed
d. Former FJF trainees (those who are currently in employment are eligible)

APPRENTICESHIP ROLES AND QUALIFICATIONS (AND HOW THEY WORK)

The next round of recruitment is due to be held at the end August/beg September. The Apprenticeship roles will fit into 6 types of Apprenticeships – see below:

• Customer Service
• Business Administration
• Health and Social Care
• Cleaning & Environment Services
• Highway Maintenance
• Youth & Community

A role profile has been developed for each type of Apprenticeship framework which details the responsibilities, skills and behaviours required.

More detailed information about the positions such as hours, location and an overview of specific job positions will be offered once you have been successful at your ‘Functional Skills’ assessment.

Applicants are able to apply for ONE Apprenticeship framework area (ie: Business Admin). Within each framework, there may be more than one role and applicants must then indicate the job positions in which they are interested.
