Manchester Health and Care Commissioning Bed Base Workshop

18 Jan 2019 - 10:54 by michelle.foster

Manchester Health and Care Commissioning (MHCC) is committed to moving to an outcome-based model of care delivery; following the development of an outcomes-based model of homecare, the next stage is to move to a detailed understanding of current and future “bed base” requirements for the population of Manchester. MHCC’s vision is to develop a commissioning strategy for their integrated health and social care bed-based provision across the city which better meets the desired outcomes and needs of the population.

The scope of the work has been defined as follows:
“Meeting the future needs of the resident population of Manchester, in all bed-based settings outside of their private dwelling (not commissioned for the purposes of health and social care services)  and outside secondary care”

MHCC know that current bed base does not always meet the needs of the resident – the focus is often “can the bed accommodate the resident” rather than “does the bed meet the needs and desired outcomes of the resident”.

With this in mind, MHCC is taking forward a programme of work which will develop a future operating model, for the “bed-based needs” of the population of Manchester.

The work is a combination of developing an understanding of:
• The future needs of our population drawing together health and social care data, evidence and insight
• What is in place now and to what extent this provision meets these needs
• What else is underway both by MHCC and across Greater Manchester commissioners, and to what extent this work supports these outcomes
• What the gaps are between current provision, planned provision and future needs
• Creating a structured work programme to start to address any identified gap

With this in mind, MHCC are holding a workshop on 6 March 2019, 16.00-18.30 at Belong Morris Feinmann, Palatine Road, Manchester M20 2UW.

In this session, MHCC will present the data, evidence and insight gathered to date, and seek your input and views on a future model.
