Manchester Mental Health Recovery Network (Peer Support)

This, the third meeting of the Recovery Network focused on developing peer support networks and services. 40 people attended including: people who use mental health services; informal carers/family members; people who work in voluntary and statutory sector mental health services and; people with responsibility for commissioning mental health services.

The focus of this event was to feed into the local authorities consultation on health and wellbeing services by:
 asking network members to describe what a quality peer support services would look like;
• comment on a proposed model for developing peer support networks and services;
• discuss how we would know if it is working well and;
• advise on how it could be monitored.

Members also heard about a befriending service which is run by the Lesbian and Gay Foundation and about a new peer support services which will be run by self help services.
