New Cabinet Office Fund Launched for Vulnerable and Disengaged Young People in England

15 Nov 2013 - 09:46 by michelle.foster

The Fund is being administered by the Social Investment Businesses on behalf of the Cabinet Office, and aims to help grow ambitious social action programmes in England.

Grants of between £30,000 and £250,000 are available to fund work with young offenders, young people in care or leaving care, and other groups of disengaged and vulnerable young people such as those not in education, employment or training (NEETs) or with special educational needs or disabilities. Projects must serve young people between the ages of 9 and 24, or young offenders aged 10 to 18 years.

The focus of the Fund is improving outcomes, including academic performance, work outcomes, reducing reoffending and improving health outcomes. Proposals will be considered from social action based projects supporting young people, as well as those that involve social action opportunities for young people.

There are three types of grant on offer:
1. Development - between £30,000 and £100,000 to expand or develop a new social action project.
2. Validation - between £30,000 and £100,000 to build evidence of impact of an existing social action project.
3. Scale up - between £100,000 and £250,000 to scale up an existing social action project – for example by replicating an existing model in a new area, or by scaling up an existing project.

Applications for capital expenditure are restricted to £5,000.

Civil society organisations, such as registered charities and CICs, are eligible to apply, as well as public sector bodies such as local authorities and businesses with a social mission or those involved in the delivery of public services in England.

Four information workshops will be held in the weeks commencing 11 November and 18 November 2013. Two will be held in London and two in the north of England. Details about the workshops are expected to be on the SIB website soon: www.sibgroup.org.uk/youth/support/
