Our Manchester strategy launched

8 Nov 2016 - 12:27 by helen.walker

Following their recent consultation, Manchester City Council have launched the ten year Our Manchester strategy. Tens of thousands of people were involved in the consultation which looked at how to make Manchester into the place people would want to live, work, play and do business in 2025.

The contributors included Manchester's volunteers, of which there are around 100,000. There was a wide range of responses but there were a few common themes which have formed an overall vision:

"Our vision is for Manchester to be in the top flight of world-class cities by 2025, when the city will:

  • have a competitive, dynamic and sustainable economy that draws on our distinctive strengths in science, advanced manufacturing, culture, and creative and digital business – cultivating and encouraging new ideas
  • possess highly skilled, enterprising and industrious people
  • be connected, internationally and within the UK
  • play its full part in limiting the impacts of climate change
  • be a place where residents from all backgrounds feel safe, can aspire, succeed and live well
  • be clean, attractive, culturally rich, outward-looking and welcoming."

The strategy's five themes that emerged from this vision are:

  • A thriving and sustainable city
  • A highly skilled city
  • A progressive and equitable city
  • A liveable and low carbon city
  • A connected city

More information about the vision and five themes is available from the Manchester City Council website.
