Whatcharity.com spearheads national roll out with expansion in Manchester

25 May 2018 - 10:37 by michelle.foster

Continuous budget cuts to services mean more responsibility falls to charities to help their communities. whatCharity.com is a ground-breaking charity tech platform providing a smarter solution to charitable giving, helping individuals and companies find and support charities close to their hearts, homes and offices. To support the charities in the North East of England, whatCharity.com will be meeting with charities and companies to launch its Manchester base on 5 June 2018 as part of its national roll out strategy. whatcharity.com

Based on a simple philosophy that doing good shouldn’t be complicated, the fully mobile responsive site was designed from the perspective of the individual, wanting to find more information so they could help. Featuring charity profiles of every registered charity in the UK, each profile clearly outlines the charity’s mission or project and includes Charity Commission data to show how the charity operates and how funds are allocated for clearer transparency. Charities are easily searchable through location, cause or resources required – from time, money, goods and skills.

In addition to its consumer interface, whatCharity.com has developed a simple, agile, digital tool for companies to empower their employees when it comes to choosing which charities to help with their skills, volunteering and fundraising activities.

Academic research shows that companies with a highly engaged workforce are 6% more profitable than those without. A compelling approach to company citizenship can help promote shared values and by doing so revive and promote worker engagement, to create more energetic, committed and rigorous teams. Research also shows that charitable activities and causes chosen by the employees, with the structural support of the companies, are most impactful when it comes to volunteering and employee experience.

“Our company tool facilitates direct communication and collaboration between companies and their employees with the charities, saving time, energy and costs from outdated corporate social responsibility models” says whatCharity.com founder Tiia Sammallahti. “Employees have direct input in which charities they would like to support and are more active and engaged, which positively impacts the business, the community and encourages inclusive growth for the region.”

Sales Director and co-founder, Miia Kankaanpaa will be heading up the Manchester office leading the company tool development and charity engagement in Manchester.  With over 16 years’ experience with global companies such as Disney, Nokia and Microsoft, she has extensive skills in corporate sales, leadership and start-up growth consulting.  Kankaanpaa is also a mentor at TechManchester and Business Growth Hub in Manchester.

Miia Kankaapää continues “We have tested our company product during our launch and are developing this further to take it across the UK.  We’re thrilled to be located now in Manchester, a tech hub city with ambitious plans, recognised for its start-up support and strong charitable commitment”.
