YMCA Manchester Volunteer trustee roles

4 Dec 2015 - 11:21 by michelle.foster

YMCA Manchester is making a formal call for people to apply for two volunteer trustee roles with their organisation.

Honorary Treasurer
YMCA Manchester are inviting applications for the role of Treasurer. YMCA Manchester currently has a Board comprised of 11 Trustees drawn from the membership of the leisure facility, the Y Club.

In order to try to gain a wider perspective YMCA Manchester are looking to recruit a finance professional external to the Club. The main duties of this role will include:
• Contribute to the Board of Trustee’s role in setting, leading and maintaining the strategies and policies of the Manchester YMCA
• Ensure that proper financial records and procedures are set and maintained.
Liaise with the CEO and finance team on the preparation of budgets and financial reports and present the annual accounts to the Board and AGM
• Help ensure that the financial resources of the Manchester YMCA meet its present and future needs
• Advise the Board on policies and procedures for reserves, investment and internal audit
• Advise on the appointment of auditors
• Liaise with the CEO and finance team to ensure that accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form and at the time required by relevant statutory bodies and external funders
• Advise the Board on its financial duties and its compliance with financial regulations
• Advise the Board on any financial implications of the Manchester YMCA’s strategic development plans
• Advise the Board on insurance matters
• Advise and support the CEO and finance team on financial issues
• Be a signatory to the Manchester YMCA’s bank accounts

Youth and Community Subcommittee – Co-opted Committee Member
YMCA Manchester are also inviting applications for a co-opted member on their sub-board committee for their youth and community department. The youth and community subcommittee is a working group formed of key youth and community team members, the departmental manager, the CEO and members of the Board of Trustees.

YMCA Manchester are seeking to strengthen the group and feel that an external co-opted member would be of most benefit. This position is important to the governance of the department and its work and the successful candidate will help shape the mission and vision.

Young people and communities are an integral part of YMCA’s DNA. Next year, 2016 sees their 170th year of operation and during their long history YMCA tried in many ways to make a big difference to the community. In the early days this was about providing affordable places for members to stay; educational classes; through to helping ex-servicemen re-orientate themselves after the war. The current programmes include employability and personal development projects with young adult carers, delivering sports qualifications in special educational needs schools, work based learning courses for young people with learning disabilities, body image groups and health and wellbeing services in local communities.

The Youth and Community team and subcommittee are dedicated and passionate about furthering the development the youth and community offer. YMCA Manchester wants to ensure their projects and programmes are reputable and sustainable, extending their reach within local communities.
