Help us showcase the work of Manchester’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector

Our State of the Sector Survey in 2013 found that there were 3,093 voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations in Manchester, with an estimated income of £477 million. The sector employed the equivalent of 12,400 full time staff and 94,300 volunteers gave 370,000 hours, with an estimated value of £332 million. Decision makers took note of the survey results, we know it increased their understanding of the sector. Some of the key facts (3093 organisations, 94,300 volunteers) are now widely quoted by colleagues in the Council, the NHS and other bodies such as Big Lottery Fund.

Grant to support street based services for rough sleepers

Manchester’s Community Safety Partnership will award £20,000 to be used to co-ordinate and improve the delivery of safe and effective street based services to rough sleepers in the City of Manchester. These street based services provide a range of support to rough sleepers in the City, which include, but is not limited to the provision of:
• Food
• Clothes
• Tents
• Sleeping bags

Join The Manchester Sleepout in 2016

It's back! The Manchester Sleepout will take place on Friday 4 November, and The Booth Centre would love you to join them.

The Booth Centre are asking you to take on the challenge of sleeping out for one night only, to highlight the hardships faced by homeless people night after night. By joining The Manchester Sleepout in 2016 you'll help raise vital funds to support homeless people in our community.

Award criteria
A community space can be a piece of land or a building available for use by the community. Organisations needed to show:
• Best use of a community space
• How the space is seen as central within the community
• The impact it has within the local community

Help the Homeless Grants

Small and medium-sized charities with a turnover of under £1 million per annum can apply for grants of up to £5,000 from Help the Homeless to help homeless people rebuild their lives, re-enter society and live a normal life.

Help The Homeless's main funding remit is the regular allocation of grants capital costs to small and medium-sized registered charities only (those with a turnover of under £1m per annum).

New Homelessness Charter for Manchester

The Homelessness Charter, developed by groups working alongside people affected by homelessness, with their voices at its core, is the city’s new approach to tackling homelessness.

One strand of this approach is the Big Change Fund, Manchester’s alternative giving strategy that aims to maximise the use of public donations for the benefit of people who are homeless.

Consultation on the B&B/hotel Code of Conduct

Manchester City Council, along with its partners in AGMA have been working to improve the standards of B&Bs and hotels within the region, which are used by Homeless services.

In order to facilitate the improvement a code of conduct has been produced, which should improve quality of service, value for money and foster better partnership working between LA's, agencies and providers.

The code will be owned and operated by all partners and will be a dynamic document which can be improved upon in the spirit of partnership working.

Free Audio Tour to raise awareness on Homelessness

Homeless children and young people, in Manchester and Uganda, are inviting everyone to go on their free 40 minute audio tour, to experience the streets from their perspective.

The audio tour, based in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, is designed to help others to better understand the experience of being a homeless young person. It encourages people to look at the streets differently, and shares real stories of homelessness on the way around.
