Inspirational Activities for people living with dementia

Course aim:
To understand and enable interaction and communication with individuals experiencing dementia living within the community. To provide support and inspiration for trying out new ideas and activities to encourage communication and new ways of working.

Learning objectives:
At the end of the day learners will be able to:

  • List different techniques that can be used to facilitate positive interactions with an individual 

  • Demonstrate how interaction is adapted in order to meet the communication needs of an individual using a validating approach 

  • Show how an individual’s biography/history can be used to facilitate positive interactions and help us make sense of what they are experiencing 

  • List of the physical, psychological, social and community benefits of activity to an individual 

  • Explain the features of a good activity 

  • Outline how to structuring two types of an activity group; Cognitive Stimulation Therapy and Validation Social Group 

  • Discuss the traits and attitude of a support worker
