This course is aimed at those who provide care or support to individuals with dementia in a wide range of settings.

Course aim:
This programme provides the opportunity for the learner to understand and begin to establish a therapeutic relationship with individuals experiencing dementia. This is based on the use of person-centred validation process and interactions skills. This course mapped across QCF Dementia 210.

Together Dementia Support’s coaching is skills-based rather than academic, making learning an easy and fun experience. Together Dementia Support use film, case studies and ‘real-time’ skills coaching to build confidence and competence in learners.

Course objectives:

  • Understand the theoretical approach underlining person- centred communication in dementia care and support
  • Understand the impact of the ageing and sensory loss through the eyes of a person experiencing dementia
  • Understand how to establish a therapeutic relationship using person-centred validation process and skills
  • Be able to apply person-centred validation verbal and non-verbal interactions skills to develop therapeutic relationships with people experiencing dementia
