Family Group and Events Volunteer

Out There is a registered charity providing emotional and practical support and an information service for the families of prisoners in Greater Manchester. In order to support and reach as many people as possible, we rely on and value our volunteers.

As a Family Group and Events Support Volunteer, you will provide a helping hand to support Client events. As a charity, we run a number of events and groups for our clients ranging from Family Days,days out and activities for our families during the school holidays, to Wellbeing Days where our clients can spend a day being pampered, relaxing and socialising with others. Events at Out There are always fun, busy and sociable. 

What will I be doing as an Event Support Volunteer?

To help us make sure our events are run smoothly and there is positive feedback from all, your role may include

• Socialising with and supporting clients and families during events
• Helping set up and clear down from events
• Having input into creative decisions and ideas for events
• Supporting Out There staff with admin for events such as leaflets or feedback forms
• Assisting in picking up / dropping off or meeting clients to attend events
• Supporting Out There staff with ad hoc duties for events such as picking up catering or organising supplies

What skills and experience do I need?

• Be positive and friendly
• Have a non-judgmental attitude
• Be flexible and use initiative
• Have a full and clean driving licence (or be able to access public transport)
• Be organised and punctual
• Have some experience of direct work with families, children or our client group.

How much time commitment will this be?

This can vary and can depend on what events are happening month by month but on average, it would be 2 half days or one full day per month.

Please note: we are currently not holding events due to coronavirus restrictions, but we are currently undergoing the recruitment and induction process for volunteers so that when we can run again, you will be ready to go!
