Description of opportunity:

Do you have a vehicle and a couple hours free on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings? You can donate your time and support to Greater Together Manchester, an anti-poverty charity who run a Social Super market in Miles Platting, providing low cost food and goods to the community.

We are urgently recruiting for regular driving volunteers to pick up and drop off food at our Social super market. This support would make a huge difference in ensuring people have access to low cost and nutritious food.

Ideally we would like a reliable volunteer to support as much as they can, but even if you can only offer one morning a month this would be a huge help! There are also opportunities to support in our social supermarket in addition to this role.

Date: Friday afternoons weekly, 3pm - 4.30pm roughly or Saturday mornings weekly, 11am to roughly 12.15pm

Location: Parish church of the apostles, Ridgway street, Miles Platting M40 7FY AND FareShare Manchester (Melanie Maynard House, Smithfield Market, New Smithfield Market, Openshaw, Manchester M11 2WJ).

Main tasks will include: driving to and from Fareshare to pickup food, packing and unloading at the church.

Skills:

  • Driving
  • Manual handling
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Ability to work independently but with guidance and support, respectful of others, commitment to our mission (Desirable)
  • Number of people – 1 or more if role shared

Driving volunteers will need their own good sized car/van that can hold items, or ability to do multiple trips with a smaller vehicle (this will increase time spent volunteering).

Volunteers will ideally be physically fit and able to lift items safely, but support can be given with packing and unloading if needed.

Recruitment Process: Application Form, Informal Discussion
Area of interest: Covid-19, Driving, Food banks
