Description of opportunity:

Could you help make Manchester be a better place for people age 50 plus?

Do you connect with people in your community and know what older people want?

If so then Age Friendly Manchester Older People’s Board are recruiting new members. We are inviting expressions of interest from people aged 50 and over to become part of a group of older people who want to influence strategy and policy and make their communities places where older people can thrive.

Age Friendly Manchester recently launched their new strategy this year, Manchester: A City for Life 2023-2028, focussing on 4 key areas:

• Being heard and age equality

• Age-friendly neighbourhoods

• Age-Friendly services

• Age-friendly work, skills and money.

This is a fantastic opportunity to improve the lives of older people in a city that is developing all the time.

Playing a part in making sure the strategy’s ambitions are realised is a key priority for board members, who meet face to face every other month and online in between.

We have carried out a review of our board members and to continue to support the diversity of the board we are particularly looking for people:

• from South Asian communities

• who are men

• who live in North and East Manchester

• who are disabled

Board members must live in Manchester.

We welcome interest from people working with organisations or groups that represent communities that may struggle to have their voices heard.

Successful applicants will undertake an induction and will be allocated a “buddy” from an experienced board members to support them their role.

There is a small annual allowance to cover any Board related expenses and travel costs are covered to bimonthly in person Board meetings.
