In September 2023, Macc launched our first What We Stand For policy statements. These new statements set out our stance on a range of issues that affect our city. However, these are more than just written statements. They are our commitment to sharing what we believe and collaborating with others to challenge the very real social issues facing our city.

ESOL resources to support new arrivals – website now live

A new bank of ESOL Resources, aimed at supporting new arrivals, developed in partnership with GMCA and Manchester Adult Education Service (MAES) has now launched. 

This online, free to use resource bank, has been designed to support informal, non-accredited ESOL classes across Greater Manchester. 

Community Navigator Opportunity for local VCSE organisations

Fortia Insight is delivering a national evaluation for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and The National Lottery Community Fund, exploring how extended youth provision can help reduce youth anti-social behaviour (ASB) in communities across England. The evaluation involves visiting ten locations in summer 2026 to understand community perspectives and the impact of expanded youth services, including a visit to Ancoats and Beswick.

Renters’ Rights Act

The Renters Right Act came into effect on 1 May 2026 and is designed to make renting fairer, safer and more secure.  

This new law will strengthen private renters' rights, raise housing standards and create a fairer balance between landlords and tenants.

For tenants with an assured shorthold tenancy, which most tenants have, the Act provides the following protection:

Greater Manchester Walking Festival 1st-31st May

The GM Walking Festival is a celebration of walking and wheeling, as part of May’s National Walking Month.

It’s an opportunity for everyone, whatever role you play in Greater Manchester, to celebrate the many benefits of walking and wheeling more as a fundamental part of daily life.

Walking and wheeling (meaning to moving at walking pace e.g. pushchairs, wheelchairs, and other forms of mobility aids) has many benefits including meeting new people, getting outdoors, and discovering new places, which are shown to improve health and wellbeing and reduce social isolation.

The Charity Commission has updated its guidance for charities and social media. The guidance has been updated to reflect the introduction of the Online Safety Act 2023.
