Kickstart for the voluntary sector

Registration is closed for this event

The Kickstart scheme is being run by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and provides funding to employers to create job placements for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long-term unemployment.

Following the introduction of the Kickstart scheme, Macc and Young Manchester identified barriers to the voluntary sector in being able to get involved – most voluntary organisations would be unlikely to be able to take the 30 employees required, in order to become a gateway for the scheme. Whilst that requirement will be amended from 1 February, we have been exploring Kickstart gateway organisations that could work with the sector.

Kickstart gateways are organisations that act on behalf of employers batching together applications and submitting them to the DWP. They can help with initial applications and support in the training and development of Kickstart workers.

Macc and Young Manchester have held a number of meetings with one such gateway, Groundwork Greater Manchester. We feel that they possess the necessary specialist skills and experience to be able to provide local groups and the young people involved in the scheme with an effective and comprehensive package of support.

Macc and Young Manchester have organised an initial online event for groups interested in finding more Groundwork Greater Manchester’s Kickstart offer.

*IMPORTANT – Only groups with current, audited accounts are eligible. This is a DWP requirement.
