Ethnic inequalities in Covid-19 mortality

11 Feb 2021 - 15:21 by michelle.foster

reportThe Runnymede Trust in collaboration with the University of Manchester have just released a new report addressing the possible causes of Covid-19 ethnic disparity. The report finds that the greater risks facing racially diverse groups are not genetic, but instead are likely the result of pre-existing social and economic inequalities. The researchers also argue that unless racism is understood as a key driver of the inequalities that increase the chances of exposure to and mortality from Covid-19, government and public sector policy responses to the coronavirus pandemic risk further increasing ethnic inequalities in the UK, and the report also includes a number of recommendations for the government.
