Request a letter in support of Volunteers during Covid-19

Organisations in Manchester can request a Covid-19 identity letter for a volunteer who is carrying out tasks to assist vulnerable and shielded residents in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Further information on volunteering during Covid can be found here: Volunteer placements, rights and expenses  and Coronavirus: How to help safely

Complete the form here to request a Covid-19 identity letter for a volunteer

Please note: This form must be completed by someone who works for the organisation applying and not the volunteer.

Redundancy questionnaire
The 10GM partnership of local VCSE sector infrastructure organisations (including Macc) is working to assess the impact of Covid-19 on charities, community groups, faith bodies, voluntary organisations and social enterprises in Greater Manchester. We are doing this in a variety of different ways including a redundancy survey. Complete our survey here

The information you provide will help us to obtain a clearer picture of the current and near future impact of the pandemic on jobs within the sector in Greater Manchester so that we can provide better support and demonstrate the impact to funders and commissioners. All information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence due to the sensitivity around jobs within particular organisations and the implications of redundancies on service delivery. No individual organisations will be identifiable from any findings we publish as a result of this survey.

If your organisation has any immediate concerns about its future please contact us on 0333 321 3021 or email: [email protected]

Voluntary Sector Assembly – Our Manchester Strategy Reset Consultation

17 November, 2pm - 3.30pm, Online
The focus of this Voluntary Sector Assembly is the Our Manchester Strategy reset. It is an opportunity for participants to discuss the early findings, see if they align with their own concerns and aspirations, and discuss any gaps that they can see. These comments would then feed into further analysis and the drafting of the reset.

The event will start with a welcome from Cllr Nigel Murphy, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council and Mike Wild, Macc Chief Executive, followed by a presentation that includes some of the early findings from MCC engagement for the Our Manchester Strategy reset. They would then give the group the opportunity to discuss these findings. The comments will then feed into the further drafting of the reset.

The OMS is very much a strategy for the whole city, not just the city council, and they want to work together with the VCSE sector and other key strategic partners on this, to ensure the reset is truly reflective of the city and has city-wide ownership.

Please join us and Manchester City Council to have your say. Click here to register

Kindness at Christmas Microsite

kindness at christmas

Christmas (for obvious reasons) is shaping up to be a very different one in 2020; and as with many things, the volunteer centre is doing all it can to adapt accordingly. As such, with our colleagues and partners, we're setting up a Kindness at Christmas Microsite (going live later today!) to promote and disseminate information about the ways and means that it is possible to get involved in Christmas / Festive-based good and useful stuff.

The pages on the microsite will be built around three component pages:
         •    Volunteering – to promote events and activities that are powered by voluntary effort and to assist
              with volunteer recruitment
         •    Mutual Aid – containing details of active Mutual Aid Groups and initiatives that are likely to be
further active around the holidays on top of the mammoth efforts already made to date
         •    Neighbourliness – information, guidance and resources about being a good neighbour, random
acts of kindness and some of the things you can do to coincide with Christmas

So that you can tell us about the things you have planned, we're trying to keep the format simple so that it isn't onerous on you – we're also happy to help; if time isn't currently on your side and we can write something on your behalf, if we can go a step further and register something with us etc.

So, if you have things to include on the microsite, please email
[email protected] with the following information (or where it is possible for us to look to for the information if it already exists somewhere):
         •    Organisation / Project Name
         •    Description of Activity / Activities
         •    How to get involved, register interest, apply etc

We look forward to hearing from you

We All Need Someone: Re-setting self and services for children and families in troubled times

no going back report

This week’s No Going Back article is from Shelley Roberts, Chief Executive, Home-Start. Like many organisations this year, Shelley explains that whilst Home-Start have found more effective ways of working and attracted more financial support as a result of the last few months, they have also seen the terrible effect that the virus and the lack of physical contact has had on people they work with. They are also unsure about the future funding picture and whether funders will be willing and/or able to support them once this current crisis is over.

“What I hope from this experience is that we are all inspired and driven to reach out to others that don’t have a support network and start to help them to build one and become part of it.”

“Our services were needed before Covid-19, and whilst we may have been forced to discover new, more efficient ways of working, for the people that need us, despite their resilience and resourcefulness, there’s only so far you can bend before you break.”

We recently released our No Going Back report, a collection of 22 voices from Manchester’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector on the response to Covid-19 and their thoughts for the future. We’ve had a great response and will continue to share some of the articles with you in the bulletin over the next few weeks. Read the full article here and the No Going Back report here

In the face of proposed severe cuts to Manchester City Council’s budget, we have also now launched our campaign to show the impact that the voluntary sector has across the city. Please share your stories with us on social media using the #NeverMoreNeeded and #ManchesterCuts hashtags.

Forever Manchester are offering 50 awards of £100 to help community groups across Greater Manchester keep in touch and bring that Christmas spirit to life. This year this isn’t possible – at least not in the way that may have been anticipated – but community is needed now more than ever. Communities will have lots of ideas for how to keep in touch and bring that Christmas spirit to life. Deadline: 20 November, 12pm
