This Community Explorers open event, held in partnership with Manchester City Council, aims to discuss VCSE experiences of health inequalities in Manchester, how we work with communities to address these issues and what more needs to happen in the future. We hope you join us for what will be an interesting and honest discussion. 

£25,000 to £50,000 grants are available for UK registered charities undertaking work in the UK. The Shoosmiths Foundation are offering grants to advance social mobility in the legal sector, and across the UK, in line with their social mobility action plan. Particular focus on charitable organisations which share the belief that ‘talent can come from anywhere’, and which align their interventions with local socio-economic analysis and need. The Places of Worship Protective Security Funding Scheme provides funding for places of worship and associated faith community centres that are vulnerable to hate crime. Through the scheme, vulnerable places of worship can apply for protective security measures, such as CCTV, secure fencing, and intruder alarms to be installed at their site for free. Deadline: 14 July

Community third-sector organisations are receiving just over £1m in free funding this month. This is funding that their volunteers and supporters have raised for them simply by shopping online with leading online retailers, through the free to use easyfundraising platform.  Your organisation can also benefit from this unrestricted revenue stream that complements existing fundraising activities – to ensure your receive funds in the next payout, register with easyfundraising, for free.

Support from the Enterprise Development Programme enables organisations to grow financial resilience and impact by providing a mixture of grant and learning support to help get enterprise ideas off the ground. If accepted onto the programme, participating organisations will work collaboratively with The Ubele Initiative throughout the programme journey to best identify support needs (both learning and grants). A new GM body set up to bring diversity, choice and, high standards of care for children in residential care. Greater Manchester Combined Authority are leading this project alongside the 10 GM Local Authority Children’s Services. At an event on 20 June, 9.30am-12pm at Manchester Art Gallery, you will have the chance to hear about the plans,  get involved at this early stage, network and debate.

Proud Futures is a programme tailored to the needs of LGBT+ young people aged 18-25 who are not currently in employment, education or training. The programme is designed to support young LGBT+ people into meaningful work, education or volunteer opportunities. It has been designed for those who are unsure about their next steps in life and who might feel nervous about taking part. Taking place 10.30am-1.30pm every Thursday from 9 June to 15 September at The Proud Place.

Whether it’s reading spaces, quiet places or somewhere to meet new faces, people are being asked to submit their ideas for a chance to win a free decommissioned yellow school bus this summer. Individuals, schools, community groups, sports teams and volunteer organisations can bid to Transport for Greater Manchester to win one of nine yellow school buses that will be decommissioned from the existing fleet in July 2022. Deadline: 24 June

This July, Media Trust are offering charities supporting women and girls the opportunity to learn how to create compelling content that connects with your audience through their three-week Digital Summer School. The online course will support your charity in crafting your story, creating content with impact, and amplifying your voice in a digital world. This year’s course is free for micro charities with an annual turnover under £0.5m. Register by 13 June

Business in the Community harnesses the skills and time of their 600+ business members to support the needs of local community organisations across the UK. The team broker and nurture connections between their members and community organisations to facilitate positive social change, across the UK. Through the programmes community organisations can access free one-to-one support, consultancy, pro-bono services and skills training from Business in the Community’s network of business members.

There is information about the GM Pensions Top Up 2022 campaign and a new employment legal advice service. GM Living Wage campaign and the Tameside Poverty Truth Commission provide updates and there is a short piece about Minimum Income Standards.
