Come along to learn more about recent policy developments in the asylum and migration sector and to celebrate the great work happening in our communities to support asylum seekers and refugees.
GM VCSE Sanctuary Seekers in-person event

We are holding a Refugee Week event for the VCSE sector and statutory colleagues in Greater Manchester. Come along to learn more about recent policy developments in the asylum and migration sector and to celebrate the great work happening in our communities to support asylum seekers and refugees.

We will have speakers from:

  • Manchester City Council talking about Manchester’s plan to become a City of Sanctuary, and how the VCSE sector can be involved in this process
  • Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit and Boaz Trust talking about their recent report on how immigration control forces people in Greater Manchester into destitution
  • These Walls Must Fall, Refugees @ Home, and Growing Together talking about some of the amazing work done by VCSE organisations happening in Greater Manchester

There will also be opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and organisations to explore ways of working together to support those in the asylum and migration system.

Plant-based lunch and refreshments will be provided!

Are you a group working locally in Central or East Manchester? The National Lottery Fund, We Love Manchester and Macc are holding a ‘Meet the funder’ event for you!

Come along to learn about two of the funding programmes run by The National Lottery (Reaching Communities and Awards For All) and about We Love Manchester funds (Rising Stars and Stronger Communities funds).

At this event, you will hear presentations from both funders, followed by an opportunity to ask questions after each presentation. Macc staff will also be available for any questions you might have regarding organisational development support.

Please note that this event is not an opportunity for groups to pitch individual project ideas. Any individual queries can be followed up after the event. Contact details for The National Lottery and We Love Manchester will be given out at the event for this purpose.

Who can attend?
The National Lottery welcome applications from groups working in either East or Central Manchester. If you are unsure whether the area that your group works in falls under East or Central, please use the list of wards for Central and East below to help you. This event is NOT a drop in. Bookings only. Please book a place to avoid disappointment.

VCSE Cost of Living Crisis Partnerships Funding – Expressions of Interest

Three £4,000 capacity building grants are available to established partnerships of voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations that are working to relieve the effect of the cost of living crisis for people in Manchester. There is one £4,000 grant each for north, central and south areas of the city, £12,000 in total.

We are inviting expressions of interest from partnerships already delivering anti-poverty measures to communities of people struggling the most. Please note: unfortunately, newly established partnerships – those that have existed for less than 12 months – are not eligible.

Hate crime has no place in Manchester. Everyone has the right to feel safe and we all have a responsibility to stand against hatred and discrimination. Manchester Community Safety Partnership has twenty £500 grants available to voluntary, community, faith, social enterprise and public sector groups. Between August and October 2024 funded projects will aim to raise awareness of what hate crime is and to increase the reporting of hate crime incidents. Deadline for grant applications: 27 June, 12pm.

Macc's Alternative Venue Discussion Group

We are hosting the next discussion space for VCSE organisations (statutory and private sector colleagues are very welcome) to meet and discuss what VCSE groups and organisations need from a venue, either permanent, temporary or ad hoc as well as those groups and organisations who would like to attend to promote any venue hire they currently have available.

The Volunteer Co-ordinators Forum is a chance for people who are responsible for involving volunteers in the work of their organisation, whether as their paid job or as a volunteer themselves, to come together.

This is a peer support space facilitated by Volunteer Centre Manchester, a space to share ideas and resources that you have found useful and to seek support and advice from other volunteer coordinators in the city.

Zuto Make A Difference Fund

The Zuto Make A Difference Fund welcomes applications from grassroots community groups based in any of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. The Zuto Make A Difference Fund aims to encourage and support grassroots community organisations. This means small, community-based and locally controlled groups that manage themselves, encourage people to get involved as volunteers and who just need a bit of financial help to be able to work with their community in the way they’d like. Applicants must be based in one of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and have an annual income of less than £50,000. The maximum award request that will be considered is £1,000. Deadline: 2 July, 12pm.

Movement for Good Children and Young People Special Draw

5 days, 10 charities, £5,000 each – nominations open for five days, from 17- 21 June. To support the incredible work that so many charities do to support children and young people, the third special draw of the year will award £5,000 to 10 charities working in this area. This special draw is open to charities whose core charitable purpose is to support children and young people (aged 23 and under). Ten winning charities will be drawn to win £5,000 each during the week beginning 24 June and announced on 28 June.

Home Office Transition to eVisa Fund

Applications are open to organisations who can provide direct support to vulnerable customers in their change from physical immigration documents to an eVisa and they are offering up to £3,000,000 worth of funding. Successful organisations will be required to provide direct support to vulnerable customers when creating their UKVI account and access their eVisa. Organisations will also need to provide support to vulnerable customers who need to share their digital status to prove their rights (e.g. using the ‘View and prove your immigration status’ service) and to maintain their up-to-date information, documents and images using the ‘Update my details service' accessed via their UKVI account. Deadline: 19 June, 12pm.

The Phoenix Way Children and Youth Round 2

The latest £2.2 million funding round is now open dedicated to non-profit organisations working with Black and racially minoritised young people at risk of violence. This second round of the Children and Youth grant offers individual project grants ranging from £50,000 to £75,000. Funding can be used to support a new project, an existing project, or the expansion of a project. Deadline: 3 July.

Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales – Deaf and Disabled People's Organisations

This programme is for small and local charities and CICs with an income between £25,000 to £500,000 that are led by and working with Deaf and Disabled people who are experiencing poverty. Organisations can apply for a three-year unrestricted grant of £75,000. This programme is aimed at registered charities and CICs which are led by and working for Deaf and Disabled people. Your organisation will work directly with Deaf and Disabled people over the long term to support them to have more choice and control over their lives, access their rights and entitlements and challenge the barriers they face. Deadline: 28 August, 5pm.

Nominations for Manchester Culture Awards 2024 are now open

The awards cover everything from large international festivals to small community events that have contributed to Manchester's creative buzz. Individuals, organisation or groups may be nominated for work including visual art, music, theatre, performance, dance, film and broadcast media, literature, digital art, photography, heritage or craft. Activities should have taken place between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024. So, if there is something that has made you laugh, cry, think, create, feel inspired, or just enjoy yourself, make a nomination. Please note: To be eligible to access our funding portal you must be a voluntary, community, social enterprise sector (VCSE) organisations working in the City of Manchester with at least 50% of your beneficiaries in the City of Manchester. VCSE organisations working outside of the City of Manchester, consultants, sole traders, statutory bodies, private businesses and infrastructure organisations who become members of Macc aren’t eligible to access our funding portal.

Active communities

The aim of the Greater Manchester Older People's Network is to inform and influence Greater Manchester strategies that affect older people. Membership is open to all older people living in Greater Manchester.

Volunteer Centre Manchester provides information, support and training to Manchester residents who want to volunteer and to organisations who work with or involve volunteers.

Group development

The Capacity Building Team provides group development support to build the capacity and sustainability of Manchester's voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations. This is available through bespoke, one-to-one support and our training and we co-ordinate a training calendar of other relevant training opportunities from across the city.

Policy and influence

The Policy and Influence Team promotes positive change in Manchester through bringing the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector together, enabling opportunities for constructive dialogue with the statutory and private sectors, encouraging creative solutions and informing the sector about policy and strategic developments.
