Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) – Manchester Peace Together Alliance

Macc is working in partnership with the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, 10GM and the VCSE sector in Manchester to support the delivery of a community-led programme on violence reduction.

The community-led programme enables the VRU to work closely with communities to understand the strengths, challenges, and needs of the community and determine how local investments will be made. The main aims and objectives of the programme were obtained collaboratively via community consultation and co-design.

Funding for year two has recently been allocated to the Manchester Peace Together Alliance to deliver the community-led programme. VCSE organisations within this alliance are Hideaway Youth Project, 84 YOUTH, Families Against Violence, Rio Ferdinand Foundation and Odd Arts.

The programme works with young people aged between 10 and 25 in Hulme, Moss Side and Rusholme to develop projects and activities to address the underlying causes of violence and build aspirations and opportunities for young people. Activity includes mentoring programmes for young people at risk or vulnerable to serious youth violence, working with referral partners, community conversations, music and sports and support for parents.

Manchester is one of ten boroughs in the city region to receive funding from the VRU as part of its investment in community-led programmes, outlined in Greater Manchester’s Serious Violence Action Plan.
