Do something positive during Alcohol Awareness Week.

This year, Manchester City Council are focusing on the effects of alcohol on children’s lives as new research has found that 1 in 5 surveyed, know of a child or children who have been negatively affected as a result of other people’s drinking.

Take part in the Drink Wise Challenge to find out what more should be done to protect children from alcohol.

Watch out for advisors at venues around the city giving advice and ideas.

Ladybarn Community Centre reaches the finals of The People’s Millions

Ladybarn Community Centre is one of six other projects across the ITV Granada region that has reached the finals of the Big Lottery’s People’s Millions. Winning projects will be decided by public vote between 24-26 November 2014. Short films promoting projects will be shown as part of Granada Evening News.

A lot of people in the local voluntary sector are going to be very angry today. They’re going to feel threatened, undervalued, rejected and hopeless. The Council’s budget proposals will make horrible reading for many people who’ve been working very hard for a long time to make a difference in the city. For some groups this will mean cuts to services and activities. For many it will mean many job losses – the sector is an employer too, after all. For some this may be the last straw and we may see the end of a number of organisations that have made a great contribution to the city.

The Start Something Project

The Start Something Project, is Youth Elements CIC fully funded Enterprise and Employment programme for individuals age (19+). The project will give participants the motivation, self belief and determination to be enterprising and employable.

The programme starts on Tuesday 25 November, in Central Manchester which takes place on 2 days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for 10 weeks.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
