New mental health guidance published

NHS England has set out guidance for how new access and waiting time standards for mental health services are to be introduced.
In October, NHS England and the Department of Health announced the measures in Improving better access to mental health services by 2020.
NHS England’s guidance, out today for CCGs, explains the case for change in four areas and sets out the expectations of local commissioners for delivery during the year ahead working with providers and other partners.

Age-friendly Manchester Lord Mayor's Challenge

As part of the Age-friendly Manchester programme, the Lord Mayor Sue Cooley has launched the Age-friendly Manchester Challenge. The challenge is to Manchester organisations, residents, groups, companies and others who would like to make the city more age-friendly and pledge action to carry out across 2015.

This could be to develop a new project with older people, to work with older people in new and different ways or to change work practices so they are age-friendly.

The University of Manchester’s Funded Student Experience Internships

The University of Manchester’s recently launched Student Experience Internship (SEI) scheme provides funding to pay for a limited number of students to undertake a full-time, eight week summer internship within organisations in the charity and not-for-profit sector in Manchester.

The aim is to help organisations complete projects or for students to help by undertaking a particular role that is required during the summer months. Projects can be varied in nature but need to be achievable within the eight week period.

Community cafe for older offenders in Manchester

RECOOP is opening a Community Support Café service this month, at The Mustard Tree in Ancoats, Manchester.

The Café, offering a rolling six week programme, will be open to male and female offenders over the age of 50 years, and who have been convicted of a criminal offence in the last six months; released from prison in the last six months; or are currently being managed at Tier 1 or 2.

O2 Re-launches Think Big for 2015 - Helping young people to tackle problems in society

O2 Think Big aims to find young people with great ideas and help them turn their ideas into reality. This is done by awarding funding and delivering training and support. Projects have to help the community or tackle a problem with society. Projects that only help one person will not be accepted. Beyond that, applicants can do everything or anything – in fact the more bold and creative the ideas, the better.
