Description of opportunity:

 

STRIVE

STRIVE is a Greater Manchester initiative designed to reduce police call outs and support families where there may be domestic disruption. STRIVE volunteers will offer virtual support to these families, offering early intervention and signposting them to relevant services within the community that may be able to help. TLC: Talk, Listen, Change is a relationships charity and along with Jigsaw Support they are the providers of this award-winning service in Greater Manchester.

STRIVE is changing how it works with our volunteers due to COVID-19 we are adapting the way we work during the pandemic to enable volunteers to deliver a first-class service to clients of domestic incidents.

Our Key Aims:

  • Provide vulnerable people with person-centred contact
  • Empower people to make informed choices
  • Build resilient, well-connected communities
  • Reduce domestic abuse, increasing safety to victims and children
  • Reduce repeat callouts to Greater Manchester Police

 

Volunteer Telephonist

A volunteer telephonist will contact the homes of families who have previously been visited by the police, due to a standard domestic incident. We consider this role to be all about empowering people to make informed choices.

Main Duties Include:

2 ½ hours per week

A phone call to the home with the intention of understanding the source of the conflict (connecting into the STRIVE team via Zoom)

Supporting families and signposting them to relevant support services and agencies.

Why would you want to volunteer?

Within this new way of working you will still be able to gain ‘hands on’ experience. You will be supported by a Volunteer Coordinator at all times. You will receive high quality training and have the opportunity to progress, working closely with and being mentored by our experienced STRIVE team.

You may want to enhance your CV, learn about family dynamics, make new friends, learn more about domestic abuse work within Greater Manchester, enhance your studying or even need a placement whilst studying.

What is needed from you?

You are able to commit to 2 ½ hours a week. (ideally same time and same day each week)

Have your own device:  Phone, Laptop/tablet.

The device is able to access Zoom (has a camera and a microphone).

You have basic IT knowledge.

Successfully pass interview, training, police vetting and DBS
