Description of opportunity:

 

Rebuilding Lives UK is currently seeking to recruit a trustee with finance expertise for its Board. This is an excellent opportunity to be actively involved in supporting the work of a new charity which aims to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of domestic abuse survivors. We are based in Manchester but are a national charity looking to broaden our reach. We are currently assisting domestic abuse services in Cheshire, Derbyshire, Manchester and Nottingham.

As a trustee, you would be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Rebuilding lives UK, developing its aims, objectives and goals in accordance with legal and regulatory guidelines.

We are particularly interested in hearing from qualified accountants, included but not limited to who have a recognised accounting and finance qualification, but as well as a proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders. An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship is also desirable.

Trustees are currently appointed on a voluntary basis and are required to commit to a minimum term of appointment of 1-2 years. Board meetings currently take place via Zoom on a fortnightly basis and typically last for 40 minutes possibly 90 minutes on some occasions. 

Trustee Responsibilities

  • Support the Board to oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice, legal requirements, and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial position of the charity.
  • Ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are in place and are appropriate for the charity.
  • Monitoring the financial position and ensuring that it operates within its means and that there are clear lines of accountability for financial management.
  • Ensuring that the resources of an organisation are used only to pursue legitimate objectives.
  • Contributing to the board of trustees' role of providing strategic direction and supporting the development of policies, goals and targets.
  • Ensure that the organisation complies with guidelines, legislation and any other legislation or regulations.

 

Person Specification
Essential

  • Knowledge of SORP.
  • Qualified accountant with demonstrable commercial awareness.
  • Competent use of IT skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
  • Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Proven experience working as a member of successful teams.
  • Dedication to the role and a willingness to devote the required time. 
  • Liaising with the CEO providing support and guidance 

 

Desirable

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of charity fundraising and finance practices.
  • Integrity and objectivity which can be applied to all aspects of the role.
  • Commitment to the goals and aims of the organisation.
  • Dedicated to the organisation’s cause and objectives and willing to act as the charity’s ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.
  • Skills and experience in one or more areas of non-executive governance andmanagement e.g. strategic planning, business management.
