Description of opportunity:

Breaking Barriers is a small, ambitious charity. Our vision is that every refugee in London can fulfil their potential and integrate into their new home through employment that matches with their skills and experience. We offer bespoke employment support, based on the needs of each individual client. We partner directly with businesses who provide work experience placements and deliver skills-based workshops. This support is coupled with employment support and English language and IT classes to prepare refugees for using English and IT in the workplace.

The BB Futures programme provides tailored support to people from a refugee background in London who are between the ages of 18-25 at the point of enrolment. The programme addresses the diverse needs of the young clients receiving support from Breaking Barriers through various activities, allowing Breaking Barriers to better support them into meaningful work.

The role is remote for 4 hours a week, for 4 months. It will involve creating resources for clients as well as providing administrative support for events and activities being held for clients who are enrolled on Futures.

This is a skilled volunteering role which also provides the volunteer the opportunity to develop their knowledge of the third sector and a deeper understanding of the barriers refugees face in accessing employment. We ask volunteers to have at least 3 years of experience.

- Supporting the Futures programme’s lead with the ongoing admin for events and activities arranged for clients, including researching relevant topics for workshops, confirming client attendance, and checking that clients have filled in impact surveys.
