Who are we:

Stork Boost is an independent work skills programme that will assist families who want to gain employment, volunteering or training experience but require intensive support to do so. Specifically aimed at parents and carers who are unemployed. 

The course is a 5 week programme for cohorts of 10 families, run twice a year for one day a week that aims to break down the barriers around going to or returning to work.

Each session will include practical information about how learners will be impacted financially, and carrying out personalised calculations so they know how much they will be better off. Additionally, we will discuss the different types of employment available and how to have a successful interview, and work on building their confidence in a group setting. 

Who are we looking for:

We are looking for a passionate, friendly and enthusiastic individual to join us in launching our Stork Boost project in Moston. Learners referred into the programme will attend our 5 week work skills programme. Ideally, our volunteer will be someone interested in doing some training around family support and may have lived experience of accessing employment support services as a parent or already have some professional experience. We need someone good at using excel spreadsheets and able to use google docs; we will provide access to a device for this. 

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

Main duties include:

• Setting up the room
• Greeting learners and taking the register
• Providing refreshments
• Assisting the course leader
• Using Google Sheets to record information 
• Assisting learners; for example; with developing their CV and carrying out job searches
• Great customer service 
• Offering peer support, empathy and a kind face!
• Helping to tidy up and clear away

Time commitment; 4 hours per week 10am-2pm, on a Tuesday. 10th September - 8th October, then 5th November - 3rd December.
