Who we are:

The Manchester Half is a 13.1 mile challenge that takes place every October, starting and finishing by Old Trafford. It is easily the biggest half marathon in the region, with the 2024 event welcoming over 24,000 participants. The challenge aims to truly represent all the wonderful people of Manchester, and celebrate our achievements.

  • Be physically active as some areas of this role may involve some lifting, standing, walking about etc

 

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

Whilst we can’t guarantee which role you will be allocated, event roles will include:

 

Arrivals: Meet and greet

  • Meeting thousands of our runners as they arrive on event day, you’ll welcome them to Manchester, put a smile on their face and get them motivated for their run.

 

Venue: Baggage drop off / collection area

  • Crucial to the success of the event, you’ll be helping the event village and baggage area run like clockwork.

 

Start: Management of the start

  • You’ll be helping to control the flow of our 32,000 runners to the start line so that they start in the right place and at the right time and with a smile on their face!

 

Finish: Welcoming back runners into the finish area

  • Welcoming our runners across the finish line and congratulating them on their achievement, you might also be adorning them with medals or handing out water and t-shirts.

 

Route: Marshalling

  • As part of a team who are our eyes and ears on the course, you’ll be positioned at key points around the run route to help direct our runners in the right direction and ensure that members of the public can safely cross the route.

 

Route: Drinks Station

  • You’ll support our runners when they need it most, handing out drinks and nutrition to keep them hydrated, feeling positive and on their way to the finish line.

How Much Time Do I Need To Commit?

Your commitment to volunteering will only be one day – Sunday 13th October

Timings and the length of your shift will vary depending on the role you are doing, but the maximum shift time is around 8 hours.

 

We do ask you to prepare for the event by reading through the information provided, which will detail your role and important information about the event.

You’ll receive this information 2 – 3 weeks before the event.
