Who we are:

Moodswings is a Manchester-based mental health charity, providing support to the city for 25 years. We want to inspire people to like the way they think again. When this happens, you become aware of your strength and resilience. You recognise the beauty of your unique perspective and the immense value it holds, helping your mind recover for a better version of you.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for reliable, compassionate and understanding volunteers who wish to help aid people's recovery.

We are keen to recruit volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, including people with personal experience of mental health problems and recovery. To work effectively with our small, friendly team, you will need to be flexible, caring and reliable and have good communication and listening skills.

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

Volunteers are needed to help us promote the service and, after training, deal with calls to the helpline. Other opportunities include shadowing appointments, assisting with activity groups and workshops, providing clerical support and carrying out reception duties. People generally volunteer for one weekday each week between 10am and 4pm. Local travel allowance is reimbursed. In the mental health sector, each day can vary so we ask volunteers to be mindful of this and to be flexible with tasks that they may be asked to do.

Do something that counts. If you’re passionate about or have a background in mental health support, volunteering with Moodswings offers a remarkable opportunity to create a positive impact in Manchester. Our incredible team of Moodswings volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, bringing diverse skills and perspectives into the organisation. Many of our volunteers work compassionately on our helpline and are involved in our popular activity groups, bringing back happy thoughts to those who need them most.
