Who we are:
1 in 4 primary school children in England fail to reach the expected standard of reading by the age of 11. This leaves them unable to access their secondary education fully, which will have life long consequences.
Schoolreaders recruits, places and supports volunteers to go to local primary schools and provide free, weekly, one-to-one reading support for children, prioritising those most disadvantaged.
What are we looking for?
No specific skills or prior experience is needed but all of our volunteers must have good written and spoken English and will need to have a DBS check carried out (at no cost to the volunteer)
What would you be doing as a volunteer?
Schoolreaders works with schools all across the Manchester region from M1 to M40
You will be matched with a school that you are able to travel to by walking, car or public transport (unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse any travel expenses).
Volunteering entails listening to primary school children read to help them with their reading skills, prioritising the most disadvantaged.
