What are we looking for?
We’re looking for volunteers with empathy, patience, and strong communication skills. You must be non-judgmental and able to support people from a variety of backgrounds, including those facing emotional challenges. We welcome volunteers from Global Majority, LGBTQIA+ communities, and those with lived experience of disability.

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

Meet witnesses and their supporters before trials

Explain court procedures and legal terms in a clear, supportive way

Show them around the courtroom and help familiarise them with the environment

Stay with them during the court session (if permitted), offering reassurance and support

Commit to at least one weekday (Mon–Fri) between 9am and 5pm

*Although courts may not always actively be recruiting, we encourage applications, to maintain proactive waiting lists of those already screened for when recruitment status changes.

Who we are

The Citizens Advice Witness Service provides free, independent support to witnesses in criminal courts across Greater Manchester. Our goal is to help every witness feel informed, supported, and empowered to give their best evidence in court.
