Description of opportunity:

MASH - Greater Manchester Poverty Action

MASH is a charity offering a range of advice and support to women who sex work in Greater Manchester, to help them keep safe and healthy and empower them to make real choices about their lives. They are a user-centred and values-led organisation who put women at the heart of everything they do.

With the strategic support of a committed, passionate and active Board, MASH helped 583 women last year and their ambition is reach even more. We have identified skills gaps around HR/People, Finance and Legal services and have three exciting opportunities for professionals in these areas to join the Board and use their skills to help improve women's lives.

You'll help shape MASH's strategy for the future; navigating the challenges of a post-COVID world and ensuring the organisation is in a robust financial position to continue delivering its vision.

The Board has a diverse mix of backgrounds and experience, including women with lived experience of sex work and multiple disadvantage. However, they are keen to strengthen diversity to better reflect the intersectional experiences of the women they serve, cultivating a culture that values - and celebrates - individuals and their contributions and insights.

Due to current under-representation, MASH would be especially keen to hear from individuals from the following communities/identities, backgrounds or experiences:

  • Black, Asian and minority ethnic
  • Trans*
  • Lived experience of sex work and/or multiple disadvantage (including, but not limited to, poverty, domestic abuse, mental health, interaction with the criminal justice and/or asylum system, homelessness, substance misuse, stigmatisation and discrimination)

You do not need prior knowledge or experience of sex work to apply for these positions (although we would of course welcome anyone who does). You do need to have compassion, empathy and sensitivity to the experiences of women, as well as willingness and openness to understand the complexity of their circumstances.

This is a truly unique charity, with people who care deeply about what they do. If you believe you have the professional skills and qualities we're looking for, then we would love to hear from you.
