Brightside Connect is our online mentoring programme for 16–18-year-olds who are currently in sixth form or college across the country. Running during the autumn term, your support as a mentor will be invaluable, using your experience to help your mentee(s) to understand their next steps after school. Over a 10-week period, you might help them to explore university courses, write a CV, practice interview technique, revise for exams, and much more. All mentoring is our platform, you just need access to a mobile/tablet and no need to travel anywhere.

At Ronald McDonald House, we help families stay close when it matters most. Our Houses across the UK offer a free, welcoming “home away from home” just steps from children’s hospitals—somewhere families can rest, recharge, and feel supported during an incredibly challenging time.
Ronald McDonald House Manchester opened its doors in 2012 and is home to 65 en-suite bedrooms, communal kitchens and day facilities. We welcome families whose children are receiving care at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital or St Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Families travel from all over the UK—and beyond—and our House is here to make their stay a little easier and a lot warmer.
That’s where our volunteers come in. From helping out with housekeeping, to hosting coffee and cake evenings or sharing special skills like hair and beauty treatments, our volunteers bring energy, kindness, and smiles into the House every day. There’s flexibility around availability, so you can volunteer in a way that works for you.
Volunteers don’t provide direct care to children—but they do help create a calm, friendly, and supportive environment for parents, carers, and siblings. If you’ve got a skill, hobby, or simply a bit of time and a big heart, we’d love you to be part of our volunteer team.

The CourtWatch project is run by Transform Justice, a charity that works for a fairer, more compassionate criminal justice system.

Join Plant CIC to help us grow our urban garden. Plant CIC is a small gardening collective working on the NOMA estate in the city centre, where we have been transforming green spaces and caring for the gardens since 2021.
We run weekly gardening sessions led by our volunteer coordinator, Grace, who is an experienced and qualified gardener. Gardening is a great way to get outdoors, ground yourself in nature, as well as learn a new skill. All skill levels are welcome, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

FareShare Greater Manchester (Felix) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to assist with the demonstration of food preparation techniques to produce quick, easy, nutritious and affordable meals, using fresh vegetables, and helping people discover new flavours and to reduce food waste. You would be visiting each of our 20 host venues, including schools and charities that run cooking projects, as well as community initiatives and assisting our Community Chef in the preparation of ingredients, liaising with participants in the initiative, and helping clean up after the cooking session.

NAPAC (the National Association for People Abused in Childhood) provides emotional support to adult survivors of all types of childhood abuse; including physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect. Volunteer Call Handlers answer calls to NAPAC’s primary survivor support service – the telephone support line, so being confident speaking on the telephone is essential. Due to the nature of the role, we require our volunteers to be above the age of 21. Our volunteers at NAPAC are part of a unique, welcoming team where they receive 1:1 support from those around them. Volunteers will receive a 5-week training course (4×3-hour sessions plus a shadowing week).
