Manchester Day 2016 – EUREKA!

Come and see over 2,000 performers and artists bring Manchester city centre to life in a fusion of colour, sound and movement on Sunday 19 June, 12pm - 6pm in Mnahcestre City Centre. This year’s theme, EUREKA! will take you on an adventure of wonder, invention and curiosity as Manchester celebrates its status as European City of Science 2016.

Submit your events now to be part of Manchester Histories Festival 2016

Due to demand Manchester Histories (MH) is extending the deadline to submit events to be part of the next Manchester Histories Festival (MHF) to 5pm on Friday 26 February 2016.

With over 190 events and 25,000 visitors in 2014, the 4th MHF will return across Greater Manchester from the 3 to 12 June 2016 with the Manchester Celebration Day at Manchester Town Hall on Saturday 11 June 2016.

Portland Basin Museum International Women's Day 2016 - BME Female Artists/Creators Wanted

A project for Portland Basin Museum in Ashton to celebrate International Women’s Day 2016 requires BME female artists and creators to submit work exploring ‘taboo’ subjects; this can include anything from race, religion, identity, immigration, mental health, addiction, domestic abuse etc.

The project hopes this will allow a space for BME women to showcase their work exploring these important issues that are often not discussed and will raise awareness amongst the public. The chosen pieces will be displayed at the museum throughout the month of March.

Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank are now inviting applications for participants for this year’s Manchester DayEureka! Community groups, volunteers and organisations throughout the city are invited to apply to be part of Manchester Day 2016, which is taking place on 19 June 2016.

With your help on Sunday 19 June 2016, together Manchester’s city centre streets and squares will be transformed into a vibrant party celebrating the city and what it means to be Mancunian.

Manchester City Council are really proud to be able to announce that web giant Google has chosen Manchester's Central Library as the next venue for their 'Google Garage'. This will provide free, in-person digital skills training, from everyday experts, right here in Manchester.

The Digital Garage is the place where anyone can come to give themselves a digital tune-up -- to pick up the skills they need to make the most of the web, and grow their business or career.

Ancoats Voice Up - new arts project for the people of Ancoats

Let’s Go in partnership with Great Places Housing Association have introduced a new arts project for the people of Ancoats.

Ancoat’s Voice Up will host a series of free creative workshops providing opportunities for you to explore new ways of uniting your neighbourhoods, expressing your voice and leading local action.

You are never too old to start Acting Up

Kaleidoscope are looking for older people in the North West region of the UK to try Acting Up! This October theatre company Kaleidoscope are launching a new initiative aimed at encouraging and supporting more older people across the UK to get involved in drama and the performing arts. The initiative which is called Acting Up will support senior citizens across the UK to set up their own Acting Up groups.

16 days of street art action 2015 - Pillars of the community

On each day of the international campaign, running from 25 November 2015 to 10 December 2015, ’16 days of action to end violence against women’ a piece of street art depicting a revolutionary woman will appear on street pillars on Oldham Street in Manchester city centre. The pillars will remain decorated until 30 January 2016.

This action aims to promote the work of female artists from across the northwest and celebrate some of the lesser-known female icons of past and present.
