Courses and classes at The Edge

Based in a former Sunday school in Chorlton South Manchester, The Edge is a little theatre with big aspirations. Launched in 2011 with award winning actors Julie Hesmondhalgh and Mark Rylance as its Patrons, the 70 seat venue is both a receiving and a producing house, with a particular interest in theatre for children, musical theatre and new writing.

100 Days to Save the ‘Beating Heart of Ancoats’

Manchester has less than 100 days to save Ancoats Dispensary formally know as the Ardwick and Ancoats Hospital. This week, Ancoats Dispensary Trust (ADT), the grassroots community group working to restore one of Manchester’s most iconic Victorian buildings, announced that it needs to raise £55,000 by February 2015. This ‘match’funding will unlock over £770,000 of funding recently awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Royal Exchange Theatre Adult Daytime Programme Spring Summer 2015

Between the Lines is a play reading ad discussion groups for over 18s. Each session will focus on a play that in some way relates to a current position (thematically, through the time it was written or ‘in conversation’ with the play that is being produced). The session will not require everyone to read aloud but there will be opportunities to do so and to discuss the paly, as well as to gain insights into the production.

Manchester City Council consultation launched on 2015-17 budget options – deadline 18 Feb 2014

Manchester City Council has launched the main consultation on its 2015-17 budget options, along with a number of individual consultations on specific elements.

Options for consultation were agreed by the council’s Executive on Wednesday 26 November.

They aim to address an estimated funding shortfall of £59m in 2015/16, potentially rising to £90 million in 2016/17.

Today We Are Angry, Tomorrow We Must Talk

A lot of people in the local voluntary sector are going to be very angry today. They’re going to feel threatened, undervalued, rejected and hopeless. The Council’s budget proposals will make horrible reading for many people who’ve been working very hard for a long time to make a difference in the city. For some groups this will mean cuts to services and activities. For many it will mean many job losses – the sector is an employer too, after all. For some this may be the last straw and we may see the end of a number of organisations that have made a great contribution to the city.

Cultural Partnership Grants 2015-18

Not-for-profit organisations can apply for funding of between £10,000 and £40,000 per year, until March 2018, to support the core costs of their organisation. A total of £900,000 is available (subject to budget) over three years from this fund.

The Culture Team and Manchester City Council want your work to have a lasting impact that will directly benefits residents and the economy, now and in the future.
