Safe Space: It's time to talk about women's safety

Registration is closed for this event
An open conversation about different aspects of safety, highlighting what is already happening in our sector to support women and girls and what more could be achieved.

Personal safety for women and girls is and always will be an important issue. Unfortunately, more and more women are being hurt and killed by people they know in their homes and by strangers on our streets. We feel it’s the right time to start a conversation with VCSE sector colleagues to meet, share and discuss how female residents of Manchester feel about personal safety, what is being done to make them feel safer and what more could be done.

We would like to invite you to a Voluntary Sector Assembly event for VCSE organisations and groups to talk openly about this important topic, share your views and the concerns and hopes of those you support. Public sector and private sector colleagues are also welcome to attend to share their ideas and hear about the incredible work currently being delivered by our VCSE sector in Manchester, and what funding and other resources they need to enable them to continue this vital work.

We are delighted that our colleague Gail Heath, CEO of The Pankhurst Trust (Incorporating Manchester Women's Aid) will be opening our event and starting us off on this essential conversation. We’re pleased to also have a great panel of speakers from organisations including Mash, Lifeshare, GMP, The Proud Trust, TLC and many more, who will be sharing their perspective on women safety in Manchester as well as what support services their organisations currently offer. There will be an opportunity to ask our speakers questions, and we have time for breakout sessions for smaller discussions groups following the presentations. Please note that we will have one breakout room as a dedicated women only space. Please state on the booking form if you wish to be in this breakout session.

We anticipate high demand for places so we will be limiting places to two per organisation. Public sector colleagues are welcome to join but priority for places will be given to VCSE organisations.

We hope you join us for what will be an interesting and honest discussion.
