Greater Manchester Older People's Network

The Greater Manchester Older People’s Network (GMOPN) was established in October 2015 following a consultation with older people in Greater Manchester. The development of the GMOPN is supported by the Ambition for Ageing (AfA) programme and facilitated by Macc. The aim of the GMOPN is to inform and influence Greater Manchester strategies that affect older people.

Membership is open to all older people living in Greater Manchester. The network members meet regularly to:

discuss matters of concern to older people;
share ideas that could have a positive benefit for people's lives;
develop ways to improve or change policies or services for older people.

Macc supports the GMOPN with all its staffing and administrative functions, including maintaining a secure online database of its members.

	Old Frame New Picture Photography Competition (now closed for entries) We are delighted to invite you to submit your photographs to our competition, celebrating and promoting positive and realistic images of older people in Greater Manchester. Old Frame New Picture is a competition designed to challenge the negative and stereotyped ways older people are represented as vulnerable or frail, something that has become even more prevalent during the coronavirus pandemic. We (the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network) are inviting all photographers, that’s both professionals and amateurs to submit images which celebrate the diversity of older people’s lives and their contributions to society. You can take part by submitting your photograph of at least one person aged over 50, under one of six themes: Activism Supporting my community Old and proud Friends and family Taking part Self-portraits (including selfies) For more information and to enter click here
	Celebrating the Greater Manchester Older People's Network: Where are we now and where are we going? GMOPN Report This is a report based on the findings of our Celebration event held in January 2019. The report reflects the discussions and workshops held at the event on the topics of housing, transport and health and makes recommendations to support the GMOPN's development in the coming year. 	The NHS at 70: Time for an age-friendly Health and Social Care system This is a report based on the findings of our Health and Social Care event held in May 2018. The report reflects wide-ranging discussions and makes recommendations for improvements and changes in order to ensure an age-friendly health and social care system. Click here to view the report. 	Age-Friendly Transport in Greater Manchester - Are we getting there? Greater Manchester Older People's Network Report The report based on the findings from this conference makes 10 recommendations which we believe will support the development of a more age-friendly transport system in Greater Manchester. The Greater Manchester Older People’s Network would hope to continue to work with the combined authority, Transport for Greater Manchester and other providers to help translate some of these recommendations into action. 	Greater Manchester becomes UK's first age-friendly city region The World Health Organization has recognised Greater Manchester as the UK’s first age-friendly city region. To mark the achievement, on 16 March 18 the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has launched his age-friendly strategy and joined GreaterSport to celebrate the securing of £1m funding from Sport England to encourage older people to be more physically and socially active. 	Greater Manchester Older People’s Network - Me and My Home: Our Housing Manifesto Our Housing Manifesto has come out of our own experience and a workshop with Ambition for Ageing’s Greater Manchester Older People’s Network, MACC and Care and Repair England who support action by older people’s groups to improve housing and related services for an ageing population. Participants were older people from across Greater Manchester who are keen to see their aspirations incorporated into housing and integration strategies across Greater Manchester.
