This course is aimed at team leaders who are either new in the job or who haven't received prior training for the role.  You will have an opportunity to share good practice with colleagues and to reflect on how you, as team leader, influence team working. You will consider a range of ways to build your team and will take away an action plan at the end of the course, so that you can develop the strengths of your existing team.

Content

  • What it means to be a team leader
  • How to balance different needs within the team to enhance positive team dynamics (Adair’s model)
  • How change can affect the team and how best to assimilate new people / people leaving (Tuckman’s model)
  • Techniques to empower staff (delegation, monkey management)
  • How and why to give both positive and developmental feedback to staff
  • Recognising when a situation in your team needs to be addressed
  • How to manage a difficult conversation including how to start and end and keep control throughout.


The courses are interactive and fun, and involve working in small groups and pairs in a safe environment.
