Description of opportunity:

Being There are recruiting volunteers to help provide support for people with cancer and other life limiting illness, who are also isolated due to the Covid 19 restrictions. We are looking for Telephone Support Volunteers to support clients who are in their own homes by providing regular friendly and supportive conversations via phone.

Being There provides support to people with cancer and other life limiting illness, their carer’s and families. Before the Covid 19 restrictions, our support included befriending, respite sitting, hospital transport, social activities and practical help such as shopping. At the moment we are providing a telephone support service until the restrictions are lifted.

What are we looking for?
Calm, caring and flexible individuals who are able to be supportive and caring.
The most important qualities are reliability, flexibility, a willingness to listen and an honest, non-judgemental attitude.

Ideal for:

  • Individuals looking for a weekly commitment to phone our clients
  • Over 18 years
  • Have an interest in Social Care and people with a life limiting illness
  • Have an interest in and able to undertake befriending, and are willing to talk to others that are isolated and need our support

Practical Considerations
All volunteers are legally required to undergo Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks before undertaking any role with 'Being There'. There is also an online training day that all volunteers need to undertake. Full support of the branch managers is provided to all volunteers.

There are currently no volunteer opportunities.
