Breaking Barriers are looking for a skilled and passionate volunteer interpreter and/or translator who is willing to dedicate 6 hours per month of their time to help people from a refugee background access our services and build their confidence. They are currently looking for interpreters and translators who speak English and Farsi, Pashto, Oromo, Tigrinya or Ukrainian fluently.

Breaking Barriers is a small charity whose mission is that every refugee can fulfil their potential and integrate into the UK through finding meaningful employment that matches their skills and experience. We do this by offering our refugee clients employment advice and guidance, English classes, and IT and Numeracy classes.

Since Breaking Barriers’ inception, we have grown to support in excess of 500 refugees per year. We are really excited that we are now expanding our services from London into Manchester and Birmingham! Breaking Barriers are a charity whose mission is that every refugee can fully integrate into their new home by finding meaningful employment that matches their skills and experience.

Breaking Barriers is looking for volunteers to facilitate communication between Breaking Barriers staff and the clients we support.  We are currently looking for a skilled and passionate volunteer interpreter and/or translator who is willing to dedicate 6 hours per month of their time to help people from a refugee background access our services and build their confidence. We are currently looking for interpreters and translators who speak English and Farsi, Pashto, Oromo, Tigrinya or Ukrainian fluently.

The role is remote and can fit around your existing commitments, although some responsibilities will need to be arranged around client and staff availability. 

The key responsibilities of this role are interpreting between Employment and Integration Advisers and clients during employment support meetings (via phone or Zoom), supporting clients into employment, education or training.

This role is flexible, but interpreting sessions will be between 10am - 5pm from Monday - Friday. Sessions may vary in length between 1 - 2 hours. We would like volunteers to be able to commit to around 6 hours of volunteering per month.
