Description of opportunity:

The BrightBites programme, which is ran in collaboration with both Simplyhealth & Denplan, is an oral health education scheme for children up to 11 years old, but can be adjusted to suit secondary schools/additional needs/nurseries. Volunteers visit childcare settings, schools & holiday clubs to deliver a lively, interactive presentation that covers toothbrushing, teeth names and functions, sugar awareness and the importance of regular dental appointments. Where possible, parents are invited along to learn about oral health alongside their children.

We need volunteers who are willing to go along to these organisations locally which work with young children and their families to deliver the project. We would really like to target areas of high social deprivation where the oral health needs of children are often greater, therefore we are relying on volunteer’s local knowledge to target these areas. We would like volunteers to get in touch with the schools, nurseries and groups to offer to go along and deliver the BrightBites programme, Dentaid can provide support and will also inform volunteers if we have received contact from a local school requesting a visit.

We provide all teaching resources to support the volunteers for the session, which includes a toothbrush and tube of toothpaste for every child seen, as well as posters, leaflets, stickers, a mouth model for demonstration, a powerpoint presentation and a t-shirt.

NO qualifications are required, just confidence to deliver and a DBS certificate, which Dentaid will arrange for you if needed.
