Description of opportunity:

Who we are:

Re-engage provides vital, life-enhancing social connections for older people at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing.

As we get older, our social circles diminish, and we find ourselves with fewer and fewer people to turn to. Imagine realising one day that all your friends and family have gone from your life. Loneliness can be cruel, and it affects millions of people over 75 who live in social isolation.

Re-engage is making life less lonely for thousands of older people every year. Older people tell us that our volunteer-led activities make them happier and more able to trust others.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who cares about their community and wants to play a role in reducing loneliness in Manchester!

This person would also need to spare one Wednesday a month of their time.

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

One Wednesday morning a month you will take turns to help lead the monthly session and support other volunteers. You’ll welcome older people to the group and spend time chatting to them, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and listened to.

The activity group will be at John Holt Community Centre and will last around two hours. There will be an optional activity that gets people moving such as: chair exercises, boules, skittles or boccia.

Activity groups are FREE monthly groups that are open to older people to help alleviate loneliness and isolation. Activity groups are a great way for older people to stay active and to make new friends in their local area.

Re-engage will provide training and give volunteers all of the support they need.
