Description of opportunity:

Who we are:

Moodswings is a Manchester-based mental health charity, providing support to the city for 25 years. We want to inspire people to like the way they think again. When this happens, you become aware of your strength and resilience. You recognise the beauty of your unique perspective and the immense value it holds, helping your mind recover for a better version of you.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a volunteer to act as a leader for the group and map out interesting local routes to enjoy some fresh air around Greater Manchester. If you enjoy walking, you are active, sociable and reliable; becoming our Walking Group volunteer could be just for you!

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

Location: Greater Manchester (meet at Moodswings office).

Time commitment: Thursday afternoons every two weeks.

We are looking for a volunteer to lead our walking group! The popular 'Walk and Talk' is a great opportunity for a walking enthusiast to lead their own group and plan fortnightly walks in and around the city of Manchester. All expenses will be paid for, and consistent Thursday availability is required.

The volunteer's duties would include:

  • Complete emergency first aid training (arranged through Moodswings).
  • Requires a DBS check to be completed (cost covered by Moodswings).
  • Following health and safety guidance.
  • Planning routes for the walks, ensuring comfort breaks are included.
  • Make sure the walk is accessible to all by adapting the pace when necessary so that all participants enjoy the walk and are able to join in, and in terms of transport options for the local routes.
  • Complete risk assessments in your planning.
  • Help to promote the sessions to service users.
