What are we looking for?

Mustard Tree is seeking experienced and compassionate individuals to contribute to its Board of Trustees - including people with financial, legal and/or Health and Social care expertise.

The charity is keen to recruit trustees who represent its communities and the people who participate in its services. To add to the expertise of the charity, it is particularly interested in speaking to people who have personal experience of homelessness, the immigration system and/ or who have knowledge of Muslim culture.

Person Specification

- Commitment to the charity, its values, and strategic objectives

- Experience and/or knowledge of charity governance 

- Successful track record of achievement through work experience and career

- Strong inter-personal skills and relationship building abilities 

- Strong networking skills that can be used for the benefit of the charity

- Tact and diplomacy, with the ability to listen and engage effectively

- Experience of external representation and managing stakeholders

- Experience in positively contributing to a collaborative team environment 

- Non-judgemental, particularly around issues of poverty and disadvantaged communities 

- Ability to commit time to conduct the role well, including attending events out of office hours

- Understanding of the Charity sector and current issues affecting it

- Previous experience of a Trustee role would be desirable

- Previous experience working as part of a Board would be desirable

- Experience in Health, Social Care, or the Law would be desirable

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

As a Trustee of Mustard Tree, you will be required to:-

- Provide overall governance of the charity.

- Help create strategies, policies, and plans that guide the charity’s direction and development.

- Support the generation of income and resources that enable the charity to achieve its objectives and sustain its growth.

-Set the foundations for good governance, management, and accountability.

-Represent the charity’s interests and values to external stakeholders and supporters.

The trustee role will help ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the entire Executive of the charity to achieve agreed objectives. They will act as an ambassador and positively promote the public face of the charity in partnership with the other Trustees, the Chair and CEO.

The Trustee will serve a four-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term.
